Screen Printing

For over 30 years, Contemporary Designs has been in the screen printing business! This is by far one of our most popular requests when it comes to advertising and branding. We offer 10 color simulated process, spot color and CMYK. We specialize in dark garments and photographic printing.

Screen Printing Process

The process for screen printing involves many steps. We ensure that every step of the way that you will end up with a clean quality print when the product reaches you!

We began with art! Whether it’s provided or made, we can transform just about any image into a screen print. After your art has been approved, the next step is the output. Solid blacks and halftones (tiny little dots that make gradients) are printed onto a clear piece of film. One film per color! These are then taken to the dark room for exposure. Each screen is coated with light sensitive emulsion. The film is placed on the screen, exposed and then rinsed. The stencil for your print is revealed. After taping the edges of the screen, we take the screen and/or screens to the press. They are then lined up, the ink is placed in the screen and production starts!

After the shirts are printed they are loaded one by one on a belt to dry in one of our two gas dryers. Each one runs at about 350 degrees to cure your print. This prevents the image from washing out or having excessive cracking or peeling.

We run two 10 color automatic presses, a 6 color manual, a 4 color hat press and sign press.

Not only do we print garments, we also print on: glassware, plexiglass, chloroplast, canvas, etc.

We use standard Wilfex and Union plastisol ink colors for most jobs. We can mix any color under the sun though! There is a one time pantone mixing fee of $25.
